No. Instagram doesn't show you who visited your profile, whether your account is personal, creator or business. None of its help pages describes a visitor list, an alert for visits or a setting that turns one on.
What you can see is narrower. Your story shows you the usernames of the people who watched it, for 48 hours. A Live may show you who joined. Insights on a public account count visits as a number, never as names. And apps that promise a list of visitors have nothing from Instagram to show: the one that ranks in Google for this question says so in its own App Store listing.
We read Instagram's Help Center on October 7, 2026.
What Instagram shows you about who looked
Each part of your account tells you something different. Names appear only when someone watches a story, joins a Live or does something you can see.
| When someone | What you see | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Opens your profile | Nothing by name. On a public account, insights count profile visits | Story insights page; HubSpot's insights guide |
| Views a post or reel | A count of views and viewers | Reels and account insights |
| Watches your story | Their username, for up to 48 hours after you post | Story viewers page |
| Joins your Live | You may see that they joined | Live page |
| Previews your story with Instagram Plus | Nothing. Left off the list and the count | Story viewers page |
| Likes, comments, follows or replies | Their name, in your activity | Your notifications |
None of the 14 Help Center pages we captured for this post describes a list of profile visitors. That's a reading of what the pages say and leave out; Instagram doesn't publish a sentence ruling one out.

Does a business or creator account show profile visitors?
It shows how many, not who. Insights need "a public (personal or professional) account", and they cover "any time period within the past 90 days". The metrics Instagram lists are numbers. Viewers, for example, is "the number of unique accounts that have seen your content on screen at least once", with countries, cities, age ranges and gender for the whole group.
Profile visits appear inside content insights. For a story, Instagram counts "Profile activity: Actions taken from your story, such as profile visits, follows, or website clicks." HubSpot's insights guide gives the post version: "How many follows or profile visits happened after people viewed this post."
So a professional account doesn't unlock names. Insights already work on a public personal account, and every figure in them is a total.
Your story viewer list is the one list with names
Instagram's page on who's seen your story is the closest thing to a visitor list. Swipe up on a story and you get "the number and the Instagram usernames of the people who have viewed each photo or video in your story". Only you can see it, and only "up to 48 hours after you post it".
Two gaps are written into the same page. Replays count as views, so the number on top can be bigger than the list of names. And "the viewer list and view number do not include the usernames of Instagram Plus subscribers who have previewed your story." A third gap isn't on Instagram's page: someone who opens a public story in a viewer that works without their Instagram account, like our story viewer, can't have their name added.
The list tells you who watched a story. It doesn't tell you who opened your profile. People often read the top of the list as the person who looks at them most; we covered what decides Instagram story viewer order separately.
Does Instagram Plus show who viewed your profile?
No. Instagram Plus, the paid subscription announced on June 4, 2026, sells a Search Viewer List: "Quickly check if a specific person viewed your story." The feature works on your story's list. Its profile features are pins, a bio font and posting straight to your profile; none of them shows who visited.
When users claimed the subscription exposes repeat viewers, a Meta representative told Fox News Digital, in a Fox Business report on September 27, 2026: "Instagram Plus does not give subscribers more information about other people's viewing habits."
What "who viewed my profile" apps do
They have nothing from Instagram to show. InStalker Visitors Tracker IG, an App Store app that ranked seventh in Google's US results for this question on October 7, 2026, sells a subscription called "See who viewed your profile and reveal visitors". Its own description says: "This feature does not identify profile viewers." And: "Instagram does not hand out a list of who opened your profile, to us or to anyone else."
What it measures instead, in its own words, is "attention": likes, comments and story reactions. You can see those in Instagram yourself.
The bigger risk is your login. Instagram's Help Center warns that "you should never share your login information with an app you don't trust", because apps given your username and password "can gain complete access to your account". If you already tried one, change your password and remove the app from your connected apps.
Clues people read too much into
Without a visitor list, people look for signs. The first two aren't.
- Suggested for You. Outfy, a social media tool, says there is "no confirmed evidence that profile visits influence these suggestions". LikeWave agrees: "Seeing someone in account suggestions does not prove that the person visited your profile." Instagram's pages don't say either way.
- The top of your story list. Everyone on it watched a story; it isn't a list of profile visitors. Instagram hasn't published how it's sorted.
- A like on an old post. This one is a real sign, because it's an action: their name is on the like.
Who can look at your profile without showing up
Anyone, if your account is public. Instagram's page on who can see your profile on the web says that "anyone will be able to see your profile and posts by visiting instagram.com/[your username] on the web". That includes people who aren't logged in.
You can check what's public on it from outside Instagram. Our Instagram profile viewer works without the visitor's Instagram account, so their name can't be added to anything. Look up your own username there to see what anyone can read on your public profile. Your highlights sit on that public profile too, and anyone can play them in our highlights viewer without an Instagram account.
If that bothers you, a private account is the real control. Then "your profile and posts will be visible to people logged into Instagram who you've approved to follow you." Your username, profile picture and bio stay visible to anyone.
Our test: a profile visit from outside Instagram
On October 7, 2026 we looked up @natgeo in our profile viewer while signed out of Instagram, and recorded which sites the browser talked to.
| Check | Result |
|---|---|
| Shown | Name, bio, 32K posts, 268M followers, 194 following, 12 latest posts |
| Sites the browser contacted | Our own site only |
| Calls to instagram.com | 0 |
| Calls to Instagram's image servers | 0, our site relayed the pictures |

The owner's half is out of reach for this test: whether a look like this adds to natgeo's profile-visit number. Only the account's owner can read that number, so it needs a test account of our own with insights, and we don't sign in to Instagram for these posts.
We also can't see how our data provider fetches a profile. Either way it would be a number, not a name: none of Instagram's pages describes a list of profile visitors.
FAQ
Does Instagram notify you when someone views your profile?
No. Instagram's Help Center describes no alert for profile visits, and there's no list to check later.
Can you see who viewed your reels or posts?
Only as numbers. A reel's viewers are "unique accounts", counted whether or not the reel played. You see names only when people like, comment or follow.
Will a business account show me who looked at my profile?
No. Any public account, personal or business, gets insights, and they count profile visits as a number. No names.
Can someone tell that I looked at their profile?
Not from the visit itself. A story view, a Live join or a like does show your name. What each one shows is covered in can people see when you look at their Instagram.
